We now begin our return trip to Ottawa on the train from Barry’s Bay at Golden Lake. This line was built by the Ottawa, Arnprior and Parry Sound Railway, which became part of the Canada Atlantic Railway. J. R. Booth, an Ottawa lumber baron, built these lines to facilitate the movement of lumber from the upper Ottawa Valley to market. The Canada Atlantic Railway was acquired by the Grand Trunk Railway that, in turn, became part of Canadian National Railways.

Above is the Grand Trunk station at Renfrew, with a number of horse-drawn vehicles meeting the passenger train. A freight train is waiting in the yard for the passenger train to clear. Note the neat station building with an attractive circular bay and an upper floor for the agent and his family. The station name has been painted on the roof. The water tank is visible in the background.
